The Washington Nationals are expected to announce their intentions to purchase a large swath of land in the Mount Rainier National Park on Friday.
According to the National Park Service, the land will be the first large-scale national park purchased by the team.
The park service said the team’s plan is to develop the land into a new sports and entertainment complex, home to the new Nationals Park and a new baseball stadium.
The deal is expected to close by the end of the month.
The Nationals, who are the team that holds the most domestic television ratings in the United States, will take over the Mounts Rainier property for the time being.
The team has yet to announce the name of the new stadium, which will be completed in time for the 2020 World Series.
The team also owns the Washington Nationals Baseball Park, home of the Washington Senators.
The Nationals have said that they are working to secure financing for the stadium.
