People who think they can learn how to get a degree from an elite university are likely to find it harder to achieve their dreams than anyone else, according to a new study by a team of American academics.
They say that the most successful students are those who work hard and have the right motivation.
“The best students, for the most part, are those that have the same academic and motivation motivation as the top of the academic heap,” said professor and director of the Institute for Higher Education Policy at Rutgers University, Eric Schaeffer.
Schaeff, who presented his findings to a crowd of 500 academics and business leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, said he is convinced that students who study at top universities have the skills and motivation to succeed in the job market.
He said the best way to get an education in the US is to work hard, which is often hard for people who study in rich countries.
“It’s hard to find the motivation and motivation that people in other places have,” he said.
The study, titled The Power of Academic Excellence, examined the performance of more than 2,000 highly-ranked international students, the top students in their respective countries, in six different academic fields.
The students’ academic achievements were measured by a composite of six different indicators including test scores, undergraduate completion rates, GPA, job market placement, and student satisfaction.
The results of the study showed that only about 15 percent of the top-ranked students achieved a 2.0 on the SAT, which tests reading, math and science.
The remaining 90 percent scored a 2 or 3 on the test.
“Most students in these countries, at best, are doing better than half of their peers on the same test,” Schaefeffer said.
“And that’s only because of the way the test is administered.”
The study was based on data from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in 2015.
It looked at performance across four years of data, and included information about student motivation, work environment, and study options.
“We’re not looking at individual students, but rather, the performance across all of the students who participated in the survey,” Schoeff said.
Among the most competitive students in the study were students from India and South Korea, who were also the top performers in each of the six fields.
While students from other developing countries fared well on the tests, the results varied widely depending on which of the 12 countries they were studying in.
Students from the US performed better in fields such as English and social sciences.
They also had the highest average GPA, the highest median salary, and the highest percentage of students who earned at least a 2 on the GRE, the GRE-Advanced math test.
The US also had students who scored the lowest on standardized tests such as the SAT and ACT.
“One of the biggest problems we see with students coming from poorer countries, or from countries that are not very academically competitive, is that the students don’t have the motivation,” said Schaefer.
He added that it’s also important to remember that academic achievement in the United States is determined by a combination of factors such as how many credits you have in a given degree, how much money you make, and how much you can afford to pay for school.
“For most students, if they can afford the education, they can succeed,” he explained.
